The company name is compound and comes from two (2) sources.

The first half of the word "RIZ" refers to the process of producing cigarette papers. During this process, the texture of the raw material resembles rice (RIZ in French).

The second half of the word "LA" refers to the first two letters of the family's surname, the LACROIX, where they created the company of the same name.

It should be mentioned that the name of the company LACROIX, and specifically CROIX, is a French word and translates to "cross", hence the + symbol in Rizla.
